The Passat GT concept is a sporty take on the flagship midsize sedan Volkswagen fans have grown to love. At this year’s Automobility LA, VW debuted the fresh concept, giving car enthusiasts an idea of the types of future models that could soon be appearing in the Passat lineup.
“The Passat GT is an early example of how the new Volkswagen North American Region will meet the needs and desires of American customers going forward,” said Dr. Matthias Erb, Chief Engineering Officer, North American Region, Volkswagen. “We have the freedom and the responsibility to shape future North American vehicles here in the U.S., combining engineering resources from around the world with our unique perspective and talented local team.”
Athletic and stylish, the Passat GT concept sports various upgrades inside and out. The exterior of the car features a black roof and trunk spoiler, updated bumper treatments, LED headlights, smoked taillights, a black honeycomb grille insert with red line accents, 19-inch Tornado wheels with red brake calipers and a sport muffler. Its ride height has also been dropped by 0.6 inches, bringing it closer to the ground.
The interior of the concept is also appealing. You’ll two-tone black and gray sport seats, a black headliner, a black center console, and carbon-fiber pattern on the instrument panel and door trim. Underneath the hood of the GT lies the same 280-horsepower 3.6L engine on the production version Passat, which is mated to a six-speed automatic, providing top-notch performance.
With its stunning looks and great features, we’re hoping to see a production version of the Passat GT concept land on the market soon. However, for now, you can find the standard 2017 Volkswagen Passat on sale at David Maus VW.
