What's New For The 2019 Volkswagen Golf?

In 2019, the Golf remains one of the hippest and most beloved vehicles from Volkswagen. Not much has changed on the outside for most trims, but the latest Golf is even better than before with an improved fuel economy and a turbocharged engine that produces nearly 230 HP. This year, the Golf comes with more standard features than in past model years. Joining the lineup in 2019 is a special edition trim called the Rabbit, which features a distinct, sporty exterior and a suite of enviable components.

High-Tech Features

The base model of the Golf includes heated side mirrors that are power-operated. It also has power-assisted front and rear disc brakes. LED headlights, taillights, and 15-inch alloy wheels give the base model a bold look on the outside. In the cabin, three 12V outlets, illuminated vanity mirrors for the front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a multi-function trip computer are notable standard amenities. Technology comes in the form of a 6.5-inch color display screen with Bluetooth, it's own app connect system, and a backup camera with a comprehensive rear view.

The second-tier SE trim level gives you a larger eight-inch touchscreen display. This trim also comes standard with a power-sliding panoramic moonroof. Along with a backup camera, it has blind spot monitoring as a standard safety feature. This trim upgrades to 16-inch wheels and rain-sensing automatic windshield wipers. Heated front seats and a push-button start complete this trim level.

Finally, the Rabbit gets its own distinct look with custom colors, special floor mats, and badges that say "Rabbit" on the seats. With the addition of black trim around the spoiler, wheels, and windows, the Rabbit is bound to turn heads wherever you go. A leather-trimmed steering wheel, power disc brakes, push-button start, and adaptive bright LED headlights complete the list of amenities that the charismatic Rabbit offers. The Rabbit is available in four color options, which are black, gray, white, and blue. It is a limited edition version, so be sure to look for one soon near you if you are interested in this specific trim!

A Powerful Engine Built to Conquer

2019 Volkswagen GolfIn 2019, the Golf gets the same engine as the VW Jetta. It is powered by a 1.4L turbocharged engine that produces up to 228 HP. This is an increase in HP of eight from the 2018 model year, which gives the Golf a bit more zip when you're driving around. In addition to being faster, the Golf is also more fuel-efficient thanks to minor design changes that improve its fuel efficiency. All trim levels of the 2019 VW Golf can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission that has a dual-clutch design for a sportier feel when you're driving down the road or powering up hills.

Modern Safety Technology

2019 Volkswagen GolfWhile the Golf is sporty, nimble, and performance-oriented, it is also a safe car. For all that it offered, the 2018 Golf received the highest honors from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the category of "overall safety." This year, the 2019 Golf looks poised to follow in its predecessor's footsteps. The newest model comes standard with a variety of safety amenities including a backup camera and a rigid steel cage that absorbs and reflects energy in case the car gets into an accident. The Golf also gets an innovative post-safety feature called the Intelligent Crash Response System, which is triggered when the vehicle gets into a collision where the airbags are deployed. This system shuts down the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and turns on the hazard lights. Essentially, it is designed to react when you might not be able to. An intuitive post-collision braking system and a tire pressure monitoring system complete the safety amenities of the Golf.
